Dr. Berg talks about the good, the bad and the ugly related to peanuts and peanut butter. A peanut is not an actual nut, it is a legume that actually grows in the soil.

UGLY Features:
1. Shell – soft and can easily absorb things in the soil.
2. One of the most heavily sprayed crops.
3. Peanuts are typically not GMO but sometimes rotated with a cotton crop which many times is (GMO).
4. Glyphosate introduction into our environment also demonstrated an increase in peanut allergy and other health problems.
In the United States alone, the prevalence has more than quadrupled in the past 13 years, growing from 0.4% in 1997 to 1.4% in 20081 to more than 2% in 2010

5. Peanut butter batches tested showed traces of glyphosate

BAD Features:
1. Aflatoxin – a toxin that is produced by fungus that grows on peanuts which causes liver cancer.
2. Added sugar + Hydrogenated oil

GOOD Features:
1. Valencia – A type of peanut butter which has the lowest aflatoxin.
2. Organic peanut butter – less chemicals
3. Roasting or Germinating – Decrease anti-nutrients
4. Chlorophyll – decreases aflatoxins

5. Peanuts – comparable nutrition to other nuts
